Mission schools: a home buyer's guide

The Mission district in numbers

Mission Public Schools (SD75) enrolled 6,808 students in 2024/25, per BC's Ministry of Education, and the ministry lists 19 public schools plus 3 independent schools in the district (BC Ministry of Education). It's a smaller, more affordable district than its western neighbours, part of why families cross the river from Abbotsford for the larger lots and quieter streets.

Highest-rated elementary schools

On the Fraser Institute's 2025 report card (2023/24 data), the independent Valley Christian School tops Mission's list, and Hillside Traditional Academy is the clear standout among the public schools.

The one high school

Mission has a single main public secondary school: Mission Senior Secondary (École Mission Senior Secondary), grades 10-12. Heritage Park is now a middle school (grades 7-9), not a secondary school. On the Fraser Institute's most recent BC secondary report card the 2020 edition, using 2018/19 data, Mission Secondary rated 5.0 (185th of 252). That figure is five-plus years old; there's no newer BC secondary report.

For a buyer, the takeaway is simpler than in the bigger districts: there's essentially one public high-school path in Mission, so the "which secondary catchment?" question that dominates a Surrey or Langley search barely applies here.

Catchments and French immersion in Mission

Mission sets catchments by address and handles out-of-catchment requests through a cross-boundary application that's good for one year only, you register at your catchment school first, then apply, with approvals based on space and prioritized by renewal applicants, siblings, then others (SD75). Grade 6 students get a middle-school catchment notice in December.

French immersion runs as a program of choice with Early (K/Grade 1) and Late (Grade 7) entry points, anchored at École Mission Central Elementary and continuing through École Heritage Park Middle and École Mission Secondary (SD75).

What this means for Mission buyers

Mission's appeal is space and price, not a long menu of schools. With one main high school and a smaller set of elementary options, school choice is more straightforward, and, in our experience, the lot size and the lower price tend to drive Mission decisions more than ranking differences do. If a specific program (like immersion) matters, confirm it directly with the district before you commit.
