Abbotsford schools: a home buyer's guide
Abbotsford is the Fraser Valley's best-value city for a lot of buyers, and its schools fit that story, solid public options, well-regarded independents, a big French immersion program, and UFV's main campus right in town. Here's how Abbotsford's schools rate and what to check before you buy.
The Abbotsford district in numbers
Abbotsford School District (SD34) is one of the larger Fraser Valley districts. BC's Ministry of Education lists 47 public schools plus 8 independent schools in the district area (BC Ministry of Education), serving roughly 19,000 students. Highest-rated elementary schools
Abbotsford's top-rated elementary schools on the Fraser Institute's report card (2022/23 data, rated 0 to 10 from standardized FSA results) mix strong independents with several solid public schools, including a few of the district's traditional schools.

Secondary schools: why the rankings stopped
There's no current secondary ranking to give you, and not just for Abbotsford. The Fraser Institute discontinued its BC secondary-school report card after the province changed high-school testing, stating it "will no longer publish the Report Card, unless the government reverses the changes" (Fraser Institute). Its most recent BC secondary edition is 2020, using 2018/19 data.
On that older edition, Robert Bateman Secondary rated 7.3 (50th of 252 schools). We'd treat that as history, not a current verdict. For high schools, there's no substitute for visiting the school, talking to the office, and asking other parents in the catchment.
Catchments and French immersion in Abbotsford
Confirm any home's catchment with Abbotsford's school locator and boundary maps used together, the district recommends exactly that (SD34). Note that several secondary schools, Yale, Robert Bateman, Abbotsford Senior, and W.J. Mouat, and their feeder schools restrict out-of-catchment requests to keep enrolment in check, so don't bank on transferring in.
French immersion is a strong program here, with over 1,300 students district-wide. Early French Immersion (Kindergarten) runs at Centennial Park, Clearbrook, Margaret Stenersen, and Sandy Hill; Late French Immersion (Grade 6) starts at Chief Dan George Middle; and immersion continues through W.J. Mouat Secondary (SD34). Abbotsford also offers Fine Arts, Traditional School, and Career and Trades programs across the district.
